Robert McCloskey (1914-2003) was an American creator of children's books. He both wrote and illustrated nine picture books, including 2 Caldecott Medal Winners; "Make Way For Ducklings (1941), and "Time Of Wonder" (1958). He spent his summers on a small family-owned island in Penobscot bay off the Maine coast. Many of McCloskey's stories were set in and around the island which the family has subsequently gifted to the Nature Conservancy.
